Join us virtually on 9 June 2021 at 7pm for a conversation with Steven and Joseph as we dive into what life is like for children in Uganda.
For Steven, life has been especially hard. His father passed away and his mother had to leave for work. He lived with his grandmother after who cared for him but she also recently passed away. As the eldest child he now works hard to care for the household doing cooking and cleaning.
He may even have to drop out of school and give up his dream.
"I want to study hard to complete my education so I can support my family and fulfil my dream of becoming a doctor" - Steven
When Steven returns home he has little time to study but living in a boarding house at school would make all the difference.
Steven could concentrate on his studies and participate in extracurricular activities like sport, Clubs and vocational classes. He’d also have access to good nutrition and clean water, and grow up surrounded by inspiring role models, like our Head Teacher Joseph.
For students living in extreme poverty, living in a secure boarding house means they’re less vulnerable to being exploited or recruited into organised crime. It also means they don’t have to face a long, dangerous walk to school every day.
Join us on 9th June to meet incredible Steven and teacher Joseph. We can't wait to introduce you to them!
P.S You can give boys like Steven the chance to finish school and choose their own futures. Please donate today.
In 2010, Rachel began as a cleaner at Katuuso Primary and Vocational School. She was working to save money to study to be a teacher at University. Thanks to Barrie and Simone Goldsmith, her dream of studying came true and she is now fully qualified.
