Writing to your sponsor child: a step-by-step guide

We are so grateful for our generous child sponsors for the care and support they provide to their sponsor child, or children, attending our schools in rural Uganda.

Our students love to hear from their sponsors and writing a letter to your sponsor child is one of the best ways for you to get to know each other, while making your sponsor child feel extra special and cared for.

If you would like to write a letter to your sponsor child, take a look at the step-by-step guide we’ve put together below to help you through the process and ensure your letter arrives safely to your sponsor child.

Step one: gather your materials

You are welcome to either handwrite or type your letter to your sponsor child - so make sure you have pen and paper, or a computer, ready to use for your letter writing!

If you’d like to include an image of yourself, your family or your local area with your letter, now is the time to gather these together ready to send off when you post your letter.

Step two: writing the letter

If you haven’t had the chance to speak to your sponsor child before, make sure you start your letter by introducing yourself.

Your sponsor child will love to hear about you, your family, hobbies, interests, pets and anything else you’d like to tell them about yourself.

You could also ask your sponsor child some questions about themselves - like what subjects they are doing at school, or what they want to be when they grow up.

It’s best to steer clear of sensitive topics like religion, and use simple, clear language so your sponsor child can easily understand your letter.

Step three: sending your letter

After all the effort you’ve put in to write your letter, it’s important that it gets delivered to your sponsor child safely.

You can email us at hello@schoolforlife.org.au or post your letter along with any photographs you’d like to give to your sponsor child

To send via post: Post your letter to the School for Life Foundation offices at PO Box 831, Spit Junction, NSW, 2088, and we will scan your letter and photographs through to our school offices in Uganda, where they will then be passed on directly to your sponsor child.

Make sure you include your full name and the full name, class and campus of your sponsor child, with your letter, so we are able to pass the letter on correctly.

Unfortunately, your sponsor child will not always be able to write back to every letter you send, due to their age and level of education, or their busy school schedule. However, we can promise you that your sponsor child will write to you at least once a year, and we will keep you updated with their progress at school with a series of emails and letters throughout the school year.

Thank you to each and every one of our fabulous child sponsors for the support and opportunities you provide to vulnerable children in Uganda.

If you have any other questions about School for Life’s child sponsorship program, please feel free to get in touch with us at hello@schoolforlife.org.au

In the meantime, happy writing!
